Within the German Technical Cooperation Project the Consultant is responsible for the implementation of the working area “Adaptability of Farmers”. Complementary to the GIZ activities on the improvement of the framework conditions, IP CONSULT provides consulting services to the executing agency, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR), its departments in charge of the regulation of the fertiliser and pesticide market, and the on-farm project management unit (Of-PMU) responsible for the implementation of donor programmes. The service package „Adaptability of Farmers” includes the de-velopment and dissemination of measures for the adaptation to climate change, technical guidelines and instructions. Special attention will be paid to the qualification of training institutions and their staff.

Starting from a thorough analysis of the irrigation sector, its interfaces and the applied processes, we will facilitate the adaptation and up-scaling of climate-change sensitive agricultural practices, in particular regarding irrigation and fertilizing. The project tackles to enhance the production and irrigation measures of smallholder farms and to thereby improve the quality of water and soil as well as the livelihood of particularly female farmers and the landless. It thus directly targets cross-cutting issues like gender, poverty reduction, climate change and good governance. The vision is to balance the protection of natural resources and the promotion of the agricultural economy for the benefits of the marginalized groups of the Egyptian population.
