Globalization and the association of Egypt with the EU (to be finalized in 2010) requires not only skilled workers but a workforce who is able to use and apply new electronic technologies. Lifelong learning is an important prerequisite to competition with other countries and economies. In the public education sector, Egypt is already paying attention to this fact. In the VET sector, this has been entirely neglected until now.

The MoE drafted a proposal which aims at fostering joint ventures/vocational training cooperations between international providers of modern hi-tech educational tools and media (especially Internet-based tools and media) as well as Egyptian private and public sector enterprises working in this field. The outcome of the initiative should be a market driven, rapid dissemination of up-to-date and adapted VET instructional media in Egypt and neighboring Arab countries.

The work entailed various analyses both in Germany and Egypt, the development of an implementation strategy and the documentation of the process in two basic papers:

  • An implementation strategy paper.
  • A sector study on selected fields of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) Sector for e-media applications in Egypt.
