The project “Promotion of Smallest, Small and Medium-Size Enterprises” is part of a comprehensive support packet of the federal government for Sri Lanka to help cope with the impacts of the tsunami. The project combines objectives of short-term reconstruction with perspectives for long-term economic development. The overall goal of the project is: “The economic strength of the promoted smallest, small and medium-size enterprises in the regions affected by the tsunami is restored and increases in the medium-term.”

Main Services Provided:

  • Construction of capacities of partner organisation as well as of local networks between relevant actors
  • Promotion of SME via training and support of business groups of a branch (nuclei)
  • Promotion of value chains and identification and promotion of local competitiveness
  • Construction of trade yards (e.g. shipyards, small boat repair workshops) to support local craftsmanship
  • Construction of market halls and optimisation of transport chains for increasing economic strength
  • Management of local subsidies for the support of businessmen working groups, chambers, trade yards, market halls etc.
