In a first phase starting in the late 1980s, a bilingual training center for automatization technicians has been established within the premises of the Haydarpasa Technical College. The “Haydarpasa Model” has been fully developed, including curricula, teaching aids and learning materials. Subsequently, laboratories were equipped with the latest technology in the sector. The program was particularly interested in helping students to find adequate employment after graduation. Hence the promotion of close links to companies and the regional chambers of industry and trade were on the agenda from the very start.

The success of the Haydarpasa Model thoroughly convinced the Turkish Ministry of Education. The concept was applied to other technical colleges in the main industrial areas of Turkey. IP’s consultancy focused on the technical colleges in Hadarpasa, Bursa, Izmir, Istanbul-Zeytinburnu, Adana and Eskisehir. In addition, a training program for teachers was established. A further highlight was the founding of a Foundation for the Promotion of Vocational Education and Training. This non-profit organization is made up of a number of well-established Turkish companies which support the idea of VET, provide ideas and material support to the colleges and are important potential employers for a large number of graduates.
